The Community Rogue Guide

**** Intro Please Read*****

Hiya

Welcome to The Community Rogue Guide. For a change of pace, instead of having 1 person dictate what's the best build and what not, why not have a guide based on the collective knowledge of all the great Rogues in this forum.

In this thread please discuss various aspects of being a rogue, such as what your secondary class is and the pros and cons, what skills do *you* think are worth upgrading, and what skills do you find worthless.
Do you have any special tips or tactics when it comes to PvE or PvP?

As discussion grows I will continually update these first posts, giving credit and linking to the relevent posts to all those who participate in the discussion.

The Goal: To have a comprehensive well rounded, well informed every thing you ever wanted to know about rogues and more guide of awesome.

Here's hoping this little experiment works.

Shadow or Blind? Your choice:
Brought to you by: Krafen

For a direct attack rogue build:

Shadow Face
Upgrade shadowface, as it is a great opening attack, fast with a bleed attack.

- added by
SuperIgor

For a Sneaky Rogue Build:

Shadow Face
Optional upgrade up until you have Blind spot & Hide. Then switch focus to Blind Spot, which also has a bleed effect and does more damage.
At lvl 30 use the free TP reset to take out the previous points in Shadow Face.

All about your Secondary Class

Rogue/Warrior:

Pros:

- high dps
- useful in parties/raids
- bonuses to hp and str
- great for pking ( so far :P )

Cons:

- totally useless 2/4 elite skills ( Whirlwind mastery, Throwing mastery )
- slower than dagger/dagger ( in case u are using axes )
- low survavibility

- added by Davich

Rogue/Scout:

Pro's: they need the same stats so more for the needed stats for both.
ranged and melee damage is possible attacks that you get:
-vampire arrow (ranged dot.)
-Throat attack (Melee attack, once you get the elite skill of level 20 for your rogue it silences the target for 4 seconds)
-Joint blow (melee attack, slows the movement speed of the target by 40%, nice when you have to get away in nasty situations)

con's:
Very low survivability, really need to spam pots in pvp and pve vs people or mobs do quite high damage..
-Added by Durete

Rogue/Priest:

Pros: Survivability, really good Elite Skills

Cons: Priests can't wear leather or use daggers, not much benfit from stats.

- Added by gymboy91

Rogue/Mage:

Pros:

 • Unique and great elite skills (traps, magic break)

 • best root skills, and other great (de-)buff skills in possession (silence, fireward, magic break, treasure hunter, sharpen, plunder etc.), which makes a great party member.

 • Ultimate mage & priest slayers, pvp

 • 2 mana pools (mage/rogue)

 • able to wear 2 wands for higher damage/defence, more runes equip able & higher evasion (mage/rogue)

Cons:

 • 4 "root" skills. Lightning, shadow prison, Paralysing trap (Elite skill gain at level 25) and numbing dagger (arnt 1 or 2 already enough? :p makes us keep less skills to use).

 • low, or actually lowest survivability

 • stats don’t add much to each other

 • can’t equip leather (mage/rogue)

-Added by vayle

Rogue/Knight:

Pros: Boosts the rogue's low hp and defense. Also, there are passive knight skills that really helps out, like enhance armor(increases def) and the one which increases stamina. Disarmament is also a nice skill too because you can spam it 4x and decrease the enemy's armor def and deal more damage.

- added by vulcanfire

Cons: Only versatile Knight Secondary skill is Disarmament. Half of the Elite skills aren't that good.

Rogue/Scout:
By Kholai

Dedicated Rogue/Scout (as opposed to Scout/Rogues) skill choice:

Shot: If you boost it, it will be useful damage when running too (or from) mobs, if you don't, it's still a decent lure for selecting targets. Either way, it's free.
Protip: Shot works with premeditation too; if you're pulling with it, wait for the monster to turn its back to you, then Premedishoot it in the back like the dirty little sniper you are.

Vampire Arrows: Max it; anyone who says this skill isn't awesome is an ignorant foreigner. Now it's been upgraded, you can basically keep a single target constantly bleeding to death.

Protip: It's all too easy to waste...

Rogue/Warrior:
By Davich

Playing R/W keep in mind maxing Berserk, it dramatically boost our damage ( decreasing def in the same time, but def its not the thing we are looking for since we are going for damage ). It lasts only for 30 sec tho, but the cooldwon isn't that long so after a while, it's ready to use.

Here's the list of skills which I think are indispensable and those which are not necesarry:...

Rogue/Knight:
By: SuperIgor

Playing R/K you need to be maxing Disarmamaent, Blocking Skill, Resilience, Amplfied Armor as those skills are what makes Knight worthy as secondary class. Make sure to get Power Disarmament as soon as you hit R+15/K+15 as it boosts your damage drammatically...

Rogue/Mage:
By:vayle
mage general skills

Fireball
High mp cost, low damage. Yet its a great skill to draw mobs. I recommend keeping this at decent lvl, if u get stuck with tp for your mage then don’t add this skill. (lvl 4 skill)

lightning
Get this skill to lvl 15~, it keeps the enemy stunned even after u attack (obtainable at lvl 8 already)

silence
For a certain kind of mobs this skill is useful, its also a great skill for pvp only i think its broken,.. Electrostatic field sometimes resists this attack for some reason. U can already have fun with this skill at lvl 0, just with nothing, but for longer duration i say keep this on lvl 10.

Wisdom and fire-ward
If u have maxed out your mage, add tp to these 2 great skills, wisdom is a passive skill that adds 2matk and 1mdef per lvl, fire-ward is a party buff that increases fire resistance.

How to use the Arcane Transmuter.

First things first go to the Enchanter and buy a Power Stone.
Open your Arcane transmuter and place the power stone in one of the slots. Add a peice of equiptment that you do not want, but like the stats on it. You can also use a generic item with no stats instead but the outcome won't be as nice.

** Please Note: ITEM WILL BE DESTROYED**

Confirm and you will have a Mana Stone with a bunch of stats on it.

Do this 2 more times..(using a new power stone and new item.)

Once you have 3 Mana Stones, place them in the Arcane Transmuter along with the item you wish to upgrade.

You can preview how the item will turn out before comfirming.

You can change the outcome by switching the stones and item around to different slots.

When you are satisfied confirm and Voila! Stated Item!

"R/S vs higher levelled mobs:

Start on high terrain, shoot vampire arrow, and shot untill they come close, at that time they should have some damage.
After that just shadowface-villainy, throat rip vs casting mobs, if they do really much damage I use an blind stab ocasionally.

If you're low health or the mob does too much damage:
fight like an scout.
vampire arrow > shot spam while kiting the mob around.
if they come close: shadowface>villainy>joint break(40% slow) and start running again with the vampire arrow>shot spam.

R/S vs multiple mobs the only way to survive is to use the 10 min CD,
Blind stab on the main mob and wristcut, the ability to lower damage gained."

As a Rogue Priest:

General combat manoeuvre:

Shadow step> Blind Spot > Villainy > Laceration ...if they're still alive regen and then renew the bleed effect with Shadowface, vil..lac..

How to survive certain death:

Maybe it turns out, you weren't as sneaky as you thought and now that high level monster is kicking you like a bad habit and his friends have come over to join in.
Things seem hopeless but don't start counting the Exp debt yet, because you're a Rogue Priest!

What you're going to do is make sure you are auto Attacking and spam your heals.

- If your health is under half, first one to cast is the 5 second Immune to all damage/invisability skill, "Holy Aura" , then quickly cast Instant Heal (1 second cast), Regen (instant), Instant Heal.

- If your health isn't low, cast regen (insant), then Instant Heal, and save Holy Aura for incase things get more dire.

When your health is high enough you can unload some more rogue attacks, if you're really in Shifts creak you could use your special, Assasin's Rage.

When the main target is dead switch to one of his friends and continue until you are free at last.

Please Note: Use the Mana Pot. You may find yourself in a situation where your health is low and your mana medium-low and you see 2 pot options, the red one and the blue one. Choose the blue one. The HP one will only heal you once, the blue one will heal you several times.

When entering Fights:

When enterring fights make sure you have Amplified Armor thingie up or you would see big nasty red numbers flying above your head.

When in Combat:

Fighting, you have two options either to open with your attack chain right away and finish off with Disarm or open with Disarm spam to reduce target's armor and follow with you combo. That varies on what combo youre using SF/Vill/Lace or BS/Vill/Lace.

As a Rogue/Mage
By vayle

usually I just spam the standard rogue skills when playing rogue, so Shadow face> Villainy > Laceration > again. Depending on the mob I make different chains. With rogue/mage u have a wide selection of skills chains because u are range and melee. In start i mostly made chains for ranged damage like Fireball > lightning > (combo?) throw > fireball (when mob is still in range) > *shadowface > villainy > laceration > *again if mob still refuses to be death already.

Depending on the mob I use silence on casters and since short I discovered the great use of traps (poison trap, Paralyse trap) I sometimes place them right before the mobs feet before I start a battle. I actually never use skills that requires shadow step. Even though blind spot is better then shadowface,.. I also nearly never use hide.

Rogue/mage combo is the most squishy combination u can take in RoM. There is no electrostatic field to protect u from damage and except vanish there is nothing to protect u from death. U'll have to play with your lucky dodge and stunning range skills to kill off mobs,.. For those who seek this build, its a pretty interesting build though.

For pvp as R/S I suggest to time your spike well. Make clever use of shadow prison combined with energy absorb. Follow up with a silence defence against casters.

btw, premeditation does not require a back attack. Shot from the front will also lead to a crit always.

Q & A

Pro Tips
Things you may not have known

1. Want to see what those skills will look like upgraded?
For a Sneak Preview:

Just open chat and Shift - Left click on an already upgraded skill, for example Laceration +20, press enter and click the link, leave the skill info box open, and now hover over your other skills. They will now show up as +20 (or w/e the lvl skill was you put in chat).

2. Ever have some Jerk follow you around and Kill Steal you? Tired of it? Not on the PvP server but want vengence?

Next time the Kser takes your mob, once they have aggro, shoot the monster with Numbing Dagger (be sure to have your poison buff cast), This will restore the monster to full health.
- added by Saeko

3. Do you find yourself having to target yourself before healing/buffing yourself?

Go in to System (esc) select Interface, check "Self-Cast".

so i guess i can share what little i know of the rogue class (right now i just started my first rogue, a rogue/priest)...

Pros: survivability (regen!), really good elite skills for both classes (snake curse, dodge buff, lace boost, etc...most are really good!),

Cons: priests cant use daggers (so sf (no bleed) is kinda pointless), dont really stat benefits from 2ndaries stats a whole lot (+dex on priest is nice though), different armor (leather vs. cloth), not sure if priest benefits from dual wield at all...

Pro and Con (can't decide if it is good or bad...decide for urself...lol): the classes dont really need the other's general skills to be a good character (except for regen. and maybe the +mdef buff) but this allows you to make a good char with both classes (u have enough tp to cuz u would lvl regen anyways...) and can switch back and forth and play as both (so i like it...)

honestly although the pros dont outnumber the cons (2-3 to 4), i believe that the pros greatly outweigh the cons (and i also think they need to add a rogue general skill to give daggers (which would get rid of a con...lol)...like bows, axes, and projectiles...the same goes for priests/knights shields but that is besides the point...lol)

Also i believe that there are more good things to be discovered about the rogue/priest but so far i am only lvl 13 so i got a ways to go...

there is my two cents (for now)...sry about all the text...

Added Gym, Thanks ^ ^

I really enjoy Rogue/Priest myself. As for the Pro and Con, I dunno either. I think one con is that Rogue/Priest = really kick ass as the priest helps tons with survivablity, however Priest/Rogue = Meh, not much benefit from the Rogue secondary.

What do you think? Is that what you meant? Do you have some way to make the rogue secondary for priest more useful?

A whole lot needs to be added so lets start a general discussion..

Topic:
What skills do you think should definately be upgraded, and which ones should never be upgraded?

I think Shadowface, Villiany, Laceration, and Dagger Mastery = Definately Upgrade
and

DO NOT UPGRADE, Throw, Hide, Numbing Dagger.

agree? Disagree? What else?

Is Blind Spot worth it?

yeah...pretty much priest/rogue is good for the elite skills and the blind effect from blind stab (though i dont plan to upgrade it at all just use it when i need extra dodge chance...) the extra dex is nice...but if they would add a dagger using skill to the rogue general tab it would make priest/rogue better due to the sf and maybe dual wielding alone...although i agree that priest/rogue is meh but snake curse + bone chill is the main reason i have it (and the priest can hold its own most the time w/o much help from rogue from what i have seen so far which isnt much...lol)

on to what skills should be maxed...i agree with everything but sf in the must upgrade group and i agree with everything in the dont touch group (but i haven't gotten up high enough to get two of the three and i personally just dont use throw...but it may be nice with the rogue/war elite skill throwing mastery which makes throw slow for 5 sec...)

when i say i disagree with sf being on the must list it is due to there also being cheap shot and blind spot that also give the bleed effect...i think that the starter of the combo is all dependant on what play style u like (in ur face but less dmg (easier to pull off well) = sf; sneaky and extra dmg but takes longer to set up (more difficult) = blind spot/cheap shot...)

i think that the debate on opening skills should be between cheap and blind since they are basically the same skill (with different dmg and daze) and if u like sneaky u need to discuss which one of those is better...but if u like the in ur face approach (and dont mind the loss of dmg) sf is the way to go (so depending on ur approach go with either sf or cs/bs (and we need to figure out which of those two is the better one...))

I hope that makes sense...

oh and if you wouldnt mind could u put the elite skills when rogue is secondary up on the main page as well so we can refer to that when discussing 2ndary classes (cuz that is my main draw to rogue/priest...)

thanks

As for Rogue/scout I see it this way:

Pro's: they need the same stats so more for the needed stats for both.
ranged and melee damage is possible attacks that you get:
-vampire arrow (ranged dot.)
-Throat attack (Melee attack, once you get the elite skill of level 20 for your rogue it silences the target for 4 seconds)
-Joint blow (melee attack, slows the movement speed of the target by 40%, nice when you have to get away in nasty situations)

con's: Very low survivability, really need to spam pots in pvp and pve vs people or mobs do quite high damage..

Monday, December 29th 2008, 7:28pm

k Added =)

Yea once Shadow Step at lvl 28 Blind Spot > SF hands down.
But what about before then? Should SF be upgraded at all?
What's better SF not upgraded and hording that TP
or, SF upgraded to a certain point, then switch focus to Blind Spot?
If the latter, then what would be a good cut off?

Also in regards to Rogue/Priests especially, We get the elite skill that allows us to use cheap spot in Combat...
Blind Spot = More damage
Cheap Shot = Stun.

Decisions Decisions ^ ^

It'd be nice hearing from a Rogue/Warrior, regarding throwing mastery and upgrading Throw. Combo Throw looks pretty good.

Umm..Is this not similar to the Rogue Q&A thread. Sure it is not as detailed and formated yet however, the idea was formatted first by Wirewitch. Unless you guys planned this together then sure its fine however, if it was not this thread is a copy of Rogue Q&A Thread and thus should be credited to first wirewitch.

Sure many of us had these kind of ideas however, no one did take iniative except wirewitch who was first.

Anyways that my opinion. You should discuss this with wirewitch imo before further continuing with this thread.

Exceptionally detailed rogue guide ;), nicely done.
What is more important for rogues?
The skills or the stats they get from their secondary class?
The combination Rogue/scout seems to deal very high damage and also has nice stats, but as Durete said, it has a very low survivability.
So how performs rogue/warrior or rogue/knight when compared to rogue/scout?
